Rick Mowat

Rick Mowat came to film directing via a circuitous route beginning with a music degree from The Juilliard School, a dozen years as an improvisational writer/performer that culminated in theatrical comedy that won #1 Critics Pick by TimeOut Magazine, and directing numerous stage productions including the award winning Can't Cut My Head Off and the sci-fi rock musical, The Last American.

As an actor, Rick is also known for roles in Woody Allen's Celebrity, Sweet and Lowdown and The Town I Love. He has written and directed six comedic shorts, including Dead Air and Manhattan's Best Friend, which both screened at the Woodstock and Lake Placid Film Festivals.

In 2006, he had three shorts featured at the New Filmmaker's festival at Anthology Film Archives in NYC. His documentary short Marty Learns To Drive was a finalist on PBS's Reel Thirteen Film competition. He is also a contributing writer for FilmMaker Magazine. His most recent film Hanging Plant was recently an official selection at the Woods Hole Film Festival and the Eugene International Film Festival.

This year Rick has directed 5 stage productions for the Dramatic Question Theatre Company this year at such venues as the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre and the Soho Playhouse as well as The Spontaneous Combustion Theater Festival for the Manhattan Theater Source. In addition Rick has shot and edited several video promos for Kenneth Cole Productions.
